Позывной «Орел». Родился 30 мая 2001 в селе Исковцы Лубенского района Полтавской области.
СВО начал в Чугуеве. В конце июня направили в Казачью Лопань Харьковской области командиром взвода в 3 бригаде оперативного назначения НГУ, у него в подчинении было более 25 бойцов.
Лейтенант Нацгвардии Виталий Коваль погиб во время обороны города Бахмут 6 января 2023 года. В конце августа 2023 указом Президента нацгвардейцу было посмертно присвоено звание Героя Украины. 29 августа президент вручил орден «Золотая Звезда» его родным.
